So, straight from the New Orleans Square, here’s the most delicious little fluffy Mickey Mouse beignets recipe you’re ever going to make.
The recipe calls for 11 ingredients only, and most of these you already have in your pantry, if you don’t, you can find them locally. Follow the step-by-step process below to make them in your kitchen with the kids as well.
½ tsp dry yeast
¼ cup warm water
¼ cup sugar
2 tbsp vegetable shortening
½ tsp salt
½ cup heavy cream
4 cups all-purpose flour
vegetable oil to fry
powdered sugar to dust on top
Step 1 – How to make the dough
Start by sprinkling yeast in warm water that you have put in a small bowl. Stir it in so it can dissolve and let this sit for around 5 minutes.
Add in the sugar, salt, shortening, egg, flour, cream and boiling water in another large bowl, and then stir in the yeast mixture. Using the stand mixer and the dough hook attachment, mix the dough at a medium speed until it is smooth and combined.
Let it sit for around 30 minutes.
Step 2 – Molding your Mickeys
Roll the dough out into a thickness of around ¼ inches and then cut the beignets using a Mickey Mouse shaped cutter. You should cut the dough into 21/2 or 3 inch squares. Then after you are done, cover this with a towel and leave it to rise again, until it has doubled in size. This should be around 1 ½ hours.
Step 3 – Frying time!
If your kids are helping you in the kitchen, this is the time they step back and let the adult take charge. Hot oil is tricky business and you should handle it carefully. You should pour enough oil into a heavy pan so that it is 3 inches from the bottom of the pan. Heat the vegetable oil to 350° F.
Fry the beignets until they turn golden brown for about 2-3 minutes, then turn and ensure you do the same on both sides. Then remove them and place on paper towels so you can remove excess oil.
Step 4 – Powder Mickey
Everyone can get involved in this part. All you’re going to do is dust your beignets with powdered sugar, how much you dust is up to you.
There you have it! The recipe that all kids will simply love and appreciate. The best part of this process is that you can do it with the whole family and just have some fun. And even if you’ve never been to Disney, this will give you part of the experience of being there. Enjoy!
